I like coming here because you can always get a seat and the service is quick. Even better, they serve up good Mexican food and a relatively good price. I wouldn't say it's the best, as for me the best Mexican food is reserved for a food cart I often visited which was always located just outside the Long Bar,in Tijuana, Mexico. Anyways, here at Tacos El Norte, you find what I would say is slightly Americanized Mexican food.... my favorite here are their tacos... all sorts and made up just right. Give me 2 chicken and 2 sausage tacos, with extra chilies and a double order of refried beans and I'm all set here. love the tacos and great refried beans. The burritos are good here as well... although I find the enchiladas a bit disappointing. So, if your in the area and wanting some good, simple, Mexican food, in a clean environment, with plenty of room and friendly staff... then this is the place to come.

Great great tacos! You can all your order in for pick up too. Tacos El Norte is the absolute best Mexican food joint in town! The food is very delicious, I personally go with the steak tacos & rice. Put it down with a Mexican soda (Jarrito) and you've just had a great Mexican meal!!

I come in here often for lunch. I was told that this is El Savadorian based Mexican food by friends but I really like this in the area. They always have soccer on TV whenever I am in there. Plenty of chips and salsa when you sit down. Service can be better but the food is served quick. I really enjoy their tacos...especially the steak and or pork tacos.

The food is just amazing! You have to try their chiles rellenos. They are cheese stuffed pablano peppers lightly breaded and fried, then covered in a red chipotle tasting salsa. Ambience is nice, quiet and calm. Staff is usually very friendly. I have noticed though that whenever you order in English they tend to mess up the order. I will usually order in Spanish though so they never mess up mine! I would just verify it over with them after you ordered.

There are many locations, but each is a little different. This review is of the Round Lake Beach location. The tacos are a standard order, but don't wuss out and get the tacos on a flour tortilla -- it deserves to be on corn to retain authenticity. The guacamole is delicious, the burritos are large. In our last trip, he had a beef fajita taco salad and would recommend it. The camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic shrimp) are delicious, too. You can order online for take-out (no, they don't deliver). But dine in, it's always cool inside and there is plenty of seating. The sweet corn tamale is a welcomed treat. Burritos and tacos are good, as is the chile relleno and carne asada.

I went here during my lunch break and I had a bad craving for Mexican. Well, my amigos from Tacos El Norte did not disappoint. I was a little skeptical because its located in this nondescript stripmall and tucked away. (There seem to be a number of "Tacos El Norte"s dotted around the burbs but I don't think they are owned by the same people) I ordered a veggie burrito which had refried beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, and avocados. It tasted great with just the right amount of seasoning and saltiness. Next time, I'll ask for fajitas in the burrito. Pretty damn tasty nonetheless and pretty cheap to boot ($4.65)! I'll take this over Chipotle any day! There are a number of veggie options such as veggie quesadillas, avocado tacos, and veggie fajitas ($8! - pretty cheap for fajitas). The service is really friendly (I changed my mind several times whether I wanted to eat in or take it to go. They we're quite patient and accommodating). I'm pretty sure the cooks wouldn't mind "vegetizing" some meat entrees. I'll be back to this gem of a place. (Bonus: Awesome Mexican pop music from the jukebox!)

Once upon a time there was a young white girl that didn't hang out with any white kids, solely with Mexican kids. She was starting to become immersed in this new, fascinating culture. One evening her Mexican friends asked her if she had ever had "rice water" or guacamole. The young white girl replied, "No. What's rice water? Is guacamole spicy?". Her friends had a good laugh and then declared that they must bring "La Guera" to Tacos El Norte...pronto and they did. I confess, I am the above mentioned white girl. At the tender age of 14, this is where I feel deeply, madly in love with Mexican food. Tacos de carne asada - where have you been all my life? Horchata (ORR-CHA-TAA) - why didn't anyone tell me this is the most delicious beverage known to man? Guacamole - you scared me for some time until I put you in my mouth, *sigh* amazing. (Side note: they make a fantastic basic guacamole here: cilantro, tomatoes, onions, salt and that's it!) Come here for authentic, tasty Mexican cuisine. Tacos, enchiladas, carne asada - everything I've ever had from Taco El Norte has been delicious. I even got my parents hooked on this place years ago and they have very timid/not adventurous palettes. If you happen to be in the area - stop by and grab some fantastic food and a dulce from the display case next to the register!

I have been going to this place for years and it has been great every time. I recommend the beef tacos, steak fajitas, and some of the best sopes. They also have some of the best guacamole, its worth the $6 though. My favorite Mexican joint for miles.

I ordered the steak and chicken tacos and they were both just loaded!!! The cilantro was so fresh it gave everything just a perfect flavor! Thank you so much for the extremely fast wonderful food!

I think we go to this location weekly, that's how much we love this place!! We always get our same table and we always get our same awesome waitress!!! The chips and salsa they bring are awesome and the food is filling and to die for!!! I'd eat there everyday if I could!

This taqueria gives me a weird vibe. It feels a bit outdated, dirty, and confusing. You walk in and are supossed to seat yourself but nowhere is there a sign that says this. Thus the akward stand around and wait while confused look. The menu is confusing and expensive. Almost $8 for three tacos is way too much. If you want Asada (steak) they carge you more. To me that is messed up. Note I can go across the street to Garden Fresh Market with the mexican restaurant inside and get a three taco dinner that offers steak, carnitas, etc. with no extra charge for $5.95 and you get sour cream and cheese no extra charge. It is a bit better food too. They charge for chips and salsa on the menu but they will bring them to your table if you don't order them. So they are trying to scam you into ordering them, so they can charge you for something you'd otherwise get for free. Pasole soup is like $8.50. Who wants to pay that much for soup. More confusion........ Food is not bad at all and the service is friendly and pleasant but the menu needs to be reworked. Stop charging extra for things that are standard in any mexican restaurant. Nickel and diming a customer to death for food is so irratating. Please clean up a bit.

  • Dawn P.

The food is always delicious and extremely reasonable. They do get the order wrong about 25% of the time - not sure if it's a language barrier on behalf of the wait staff or the cooks, but it doesn't keep me from returning.

  • Angel M.

Great restaurant, love that when you walk in they tell you to sit where ever you want, staff is great and hospitable. Also the food is awesome, and at a much reasonable price unlike the Waukegan or Vernon hills locations. They offer great steak and grill shrimp. Highly recommended!

Great Food! Authentic. The service is great as well. The waitresses are very attentive to the customers.

  • Denise G.

This was just alright... Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen in this area, although sometimes it is a challenge to find one that gets the job done. The horchata here was alright, but the steak tacos didn't really taste like anything. The salsa here was way too spicy for my liking I would stop by here again out of convenience if it happened the on my way, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

  • Emily S.

So much to choose from at this local Mexican place. I love that they have so many varieties of tacos from avocado to chorizo. No frills atmosphere wise at this place, just a good neighborhood place to go and enjoy Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable.

  • Kelli P.

Consistently good experience! Not the most glamorous place inside, so we typically get take-out from here. Big menu to choose from, friendly staff to serve us, speedy service, fair prices, generous portions, consistently delicious food. We always leave pleased and full... usually with leftovers!

In my long search for a Mexican restaurant to call my own in this area, not before was I as pleased as my first visit here. I found this place purely by chance, hidden in a nondescript strip mall by a Jewel. I wasn't overly impressed by the chips and salsa, but they were ok. I ordered the Pork taco dinner, and devoured it with great fervor. I had to order them with the avocado, cheese and sour cream extra, cuz that's how I roll. The taco's come old school here , with onion and cilantro only. They were in a word Awesome, with the right amount of fat to meat in each bite, with a little bite from the marinade they used on the pork. I can't give this place 5 stars quite yet, but I will definitely be back here sooner than later.

Food was good Our waitress was polite, but mixed up the order slightly. Not upset about it:) Didnt get refills on our drinks:/ Liked the environment. Seated ourselves, quick service.

Great food everytime. They always have great flavors and do everything from scratch which makes it very authentic. They are usually pretty steady so you know they do things right each and every time. I have a medium heat threshold but the Shrimp Verecuzana gets me everytime as a very diverse dish with all the heat of Mexico. Yum

  • Cassie G.

I love this place. It's really cheap and the food is great! The restaurant is clean and they serve chips and salsa with your meal. That isn't included at every restaurant but I consider it pretty much a necessity for a good Mexican food meal!

So good! Combination plate for the win! I get taco, enchilada and quesadilla with rice and beans.

Today for lunch, since I was working at the Round Lake Beach Court House and Tacos el Norte Restaurant was just a few minutes away, I stopped by and ordered a couple of tacos to go with my ATM Debit Credit Card. As I waited, which seemed for ever (place was almost empty) I asked for an Horchata drink (rice water) and the Male Cashier asked me "Do you have cash" and I told him "NO", I never carry cash, he then said, "Each time we use a Credit Card we get charged .50 for each transaction", so then I asked for a cup tap water. I am never going back to this place! What ever happened to great customer service and the customer always get what they ordered!

  • Mario R.

Excellent authentic Mexican food restaurant! More than enough to eat, excellent environment to be in. Great waiters and waitresses that didn't mind busting tables together to please the customer. The meal was well worth the cost. I ate on a giant burrito for about two days and even after microwaving the food it was still better than Taco Bell!

  • Erin P.

Great place for cheap, but good mexican food! I have never had a bad meal! When we go, there are usually at least 10 people in our party and we've never had a problem being seated quickly. The service is fast and the tacos are outstanding. Give this place a try for a good sit down mexican meal!

    (4)
  • Justin S.

This place is just ok Mexican food, service is super slow, even when you are the only ones there. A lot of the sauces and side items come pre-made, so if you are looking for fresh flavors this is not the place. The salsas are great, especially if you enjoy a little kick. I tried the Conbinacion dinner to try a few things, and it met my expectations for Mexican food, but I would not go out of my way to have it. This is not the best Mexican food around by far (try 3 Amigos), but it does the job when looking for a quick fix in the area.

  • Bianca A.

Best mexican place in Round Lake hands down. Good service, very quick, good food, ok prices, clean place, and alot to choose from. I have an issue with going to places with rude waiters\waitresses; this place has nothing like that. Been there 3 times this month and all the cooks and waitresses were prompt and pleasant.

  • Rich A.

Good authentic MEX. Very tasty. Used to go to their Highwood location when I lived around there. But, I have to say that it was just so so. Burrito was average and the nachos were just so so. I'll try again and see if my review will change. At this point, I would prefer Moe's - and yes, I know they are not authentic, but I think their Burritos and Nachos have been better than T.el Norte so far

Everything was alright. The rice was mushy and the beans were dry. I went here with two friends and they were not impressed either. The portions were fair and so were the prices. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

Best...maybe only place in town to get authentic Mexican food! The food is wonderful & the service is always friendly. If you haven't stopped in yet, what are you waiting for!? Go...now!!!

Small little Mexican restaurant tucked a way in a little strip mall next to the Jewel Osco. You might not think of going in there, but you really should! They have really good authentic Mexican food and good service! The staff is always friendly! You can take out or dine in, no delivery service. They also open at 9am for breakfast. I noticed on the take out menu that they also offer catering service.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization.
